Rooney: We Can Overtake Arsenal By New Year Wayne Rooney is confident that Manchester United can leapfrog Arsenal during the festive period...
zoom - galleria Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney believes that the time is ripe for the Red Devils to overtake Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
He told the media, "It's tight at the minute.
Watching Arsenal yesterday and ourselves today [Christmas Eve], probably both sides didn't play as well as we can but won.
"Hopefully in the not too distant future we can move ahead of them.
"We've got a few games coming up in a short space of time and hopefully we can take advantage of that."
United beat Everton 2-1 while Arsenal edged past Spurs by the same scoreline as Christmas Day approached.
"In the second half we applied a lot of pressure, they caved in and we got the second goal," said Rooney of the Toffees fixture.
"I think in the second half they knew we would attack and they sat back deeper. We've got to give ourselves credit for the way we kept on."
United face Sunderland and West Ham away in quick succession, while Arsenal visit Portsmouth before travelling to Goodison to meet Everton.
Just a point separates the two front-runners at the moment.
