Religion and politics

I hope everyone has had a happy holiday season. However, I don't need to
hear "Merry Christmas" from anyone running for office.
I do not care what religion my president is, nor do I care how his/her family celebrates the holidays. I do not care whether he/she believes in God, gods, or anything else. I do care about my president's morals, leadership and decision-making. Why we have spent so long debating candidates' religious choices is a mystery to me, especially in a supposedly secular nation with a separation of church and state.
Candidates, stop defending your religious choices, for we live in a nation where you are free to believe whatever you want. More importantly, stop fishing for voters using religion as bait. Media: Stop making religion the issue of this election; it only adds to the fire. It shocks us that some people would never vote for a female or an African-American candidate; why does it not shock us that some wouldn't vote for a Mormon, or a Jew? This needs to stop.
